July 17, (THEWILL) — FIFA is set to introduce a new World Cup tradition this weekend, with championship rings to be presented to the winners of Sunday’s final between Argentina and Spain for the first time in the tournament’s history.
The initiative borrows from American sporting culture, where championship rings have become iconic symbols of success in leagues such as the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball. This time, football’s biggest prize will come with an additional symbol of glory.

The custom designed rings will be presented alongside the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy and gold medals, giving the victorious players another lasting reminder of their achievement.
Crafted from high-purity gold with diamond inlays, each ring is reportedly valued between $30,000 and $50,000.
FIFA has commissioned 30 custom-fitted rings for members of the winning squad, with each player receiving a ring tailored to their finger size after the final. Every ring will feature a miniature FIFA World Cup trophy and a personalised engraving inside the band.

Beyond the champions, FIFA will also release 1,996 limited-edition collectible rings, bringing the total number ever produced to 2,026 in honour of the tournament year. Each collectible ring will be individually numbered and accompanied by an official certificate of authenticity, making them exclusive memorabilia for fans and collectors worldwide.

The final will be staged at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. Defending Champions Argentina are aiming to retain the title they won in Qatar four years ago, while Spain are chasing their second FIFA World Cup crown after lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010.
Adding to the occasion, U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the final alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The White House has confirmed Trump’s presence, and he is expected to join Infantino in presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning captain after the match.
It will be Trump’s first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having not attended any of the tournament’s previous matches despite the United States serving as one of the host nations.

Sunday’s final promises to deliver more than a battle for football’s biggest prize.
Alongside the drama of Argentina versus Spain, FIFA will unveil a new championship tradition that blends the prestige of the World Cup with the pageantry of American sport, ensuring the 2026 final will be remembered for making history both on and off the pitch.
