Adeleke Storms to Victory in 19 LGAs, Leaves APC Chasing Shadows With 11

• Governor Ademola Adeleke secured victories in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, placing him firmly on course for a second term.

August 16, () — Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has delivered a commanding performance in the Osun State governorship election, winning 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas to move within touching distance of securing a second term in office.

The official local government results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed Adeleke outperforming his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who emerged victorious in 11 local government areas.

The outcome followed Saturday’s keenly contested governorship election conducted across all 30 councils of the state, with the final declaration now awaiting the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

The local government results reinforced earlier trends from INEC’s IReV portal, which consistently placed the incumbent in front throughout the collation exercise.

APC Holds 11 Councils as Final Declaration Beckons

Adeleke recorded emphatic victories in several strategic local government areas, particularly his political strongholds, posting commanding margins in Ede North, where he polled 35,427 votes against APC’s 10,283, and Ede South, where he secured 26,188 votes compared with 6,219 for Oyebamiji.

The governor also prevailed in Osogbo (36,480 votes), Iwo (27,085), Ife East (27,201), Ife Central (21,171), Oriade (21,343), Ifelodun (21,107), Odo Otin (18,003), Egbedore (19,278), Ila (16,211), Ayedire (11,073), Orolu (12,352), Boluwaduro (7,118), Ifedayo (7,427), Ayedaade (16,681), Ejigbo (18,458) and other councils that gave him a decisive statewide edge.

Oyebamiji maintained dominance in traditional APC strongholds, including Boripe, Obokun, Irepodun, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ife South, Isokan, Olaoluwa and Irewole.

The closest contest came in Boluwaduro Local Government, where Adeleke edged the APC candidate by only 68 votes, polling 7,118 against 7,050.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third in virtually all the local government areas declared.

The results from the 30 Returning Officers indicate that Adeleke has built a commanding statewide advantage ahead of INEC’s formal declaration of the governorship election.

The Osun governorship contest attracted nationwide attention after weeks of intense political campaigns, legal battles and heightened security deployment. The election was widely viewed as a critical test for the state’s political landscape, with the ruling Accord Party seeking to retain power against a determined APC challenge.

With collation completed at the local government level, attention has shifted to the INEC State Collation Centre in Osogbo, where the State Returning Officer is expected to formally announce the final result and declare the winner in accordance with the Electoral Act..
