Police Launch Manhunt After Woman Is Lured To Her Death In Akwa Ibom
A trip that was supposed to end with a simple business transaction has turned into a murder investigation in Akwa Ibom State, after a woman was found dead in a neighbouring village.
The victim, identified as Unwana Okon, lived in Ndot Village, Oruk Anam Local Government Area. She reportedly received a phone call from someone she did not know, asking her to come to Mbiaikot Village to sell Afang leaves.

Unaware of what might await her, Okon accepted the invitation and left for the village.
But what happened after she arrived there has now triggered a major Police investigation.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the woman was later found murdered. Her attackers also made away with her mobile phone and an undisclosed amount of money.
The disturbing incident came to the attention of the Police at about 3:30pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when the victim’s brother, identified as Eno, reported the matter to the authorities.

In his report, Eno explained that his sister had received the telephone invitation from an unidentified individual who claimed to be interested in purchasing Afang leaves.
Following the report, the Police immediately commenced investigations and began searching for those responsible for the killing.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the development in a statement released in Uyo on Sunday.
She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, had ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure that the perpetrators were identified and brought to justice.
In a move to intensify the investigation, the commissioner also directed that the case be moved from the Divisional Police Headquarters to the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit.
The specialised unit is expected to handle the investigation and coordinate efforts towards identifying, arresting and prosecuting everyone found responsible for the murder.
Meanwhile, the Police command has condemned the killing and assured residents that all available operational and investigative resources would be deployed to track down the suspects.
Residents of Oruk Anam and neighbouring communities have also been urged to remain alert, particularly to suspicious individuals and movements that could provide clues about the incident.
Anyone with useful information is encouraged to report to the nearest Police station or contact the Akwa Ibom State Police Command through its established communication channels.
For investigators, one of the crucial questions now is the identity of the person who contacted Okon and arranged the meeting in Mbiaikot Village.
Until that person and others connected to the killing are identified, the circumstances surrounding the deadly invitation remain a major focus of the Police investigation.
