Tinubu Still Committed To Rescuing Nation’s Economy, Says Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to fulfilling the promise he made to Nigerians in 2023 to rescue the nation’s economy.

Shettima said the commitment to turning the country’s fortunes around was beginning to yield results.

He spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Thursday during the Ekiti 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Rally held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.

Meanwhile, some of the opponents of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the June 20 governorship election in the state, including Dr. Wole Oluyele of the PDP, Mr. Alade Isaac Adedayo of the SDP and Joseph Anifowose of the APM, also declared their support for the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The Vice President, who represented President Tinubu, said his principal had made significant contributions to Ekiti State, particularly in road infrastructure, with some projects already completed and others at various stages of completion.

He also highlighted the administration’s achievements in education, noting that students were now accessing loans, and stressed that the government’s responsibility was to ensure that poverty did not shut the doors of classrooms against children.

He said:  “Four years ago, we came before you to seek your votes, your trust and your mandate to turn the fortunes of our great nation around.

“We have returned today to thank you for standing with us when we undertook the difficult task of rescuing our economy from the brink. We know the sacrifices you have made, and we are beginning to reap the benefits of those difficult decisions.”

He maintained that President Bola Tinubu and he remained committed to the mission of rebuilding the nation, recognising that the authority to continue the task rested with the Nigerian electorate.

“We seek your mandate to complete the work we have begun. We will build on the commitments we have made and carry the mission to its conclusion. We will return to thank you and seek your votes for another mandate.

“We have come this far with your trust, and we recognise the responsibility that comes with it.

“So, to the good people of Ekiti State, we have spoken about what we have done, and we are equally conscious of the work that remains before us.

“There are 1,028,000 registered voters. It is our privilege, hope and prayer that on January 16, 2027, the APC will garner between 90 and 95 per cent of the votes cast.”

Also speaking, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, said President Tinubu had done a lot for Ekiti State in terms of road construction, education, women’s empowerment and several other areas. He urged the people of the state to reciprocate the administration’s gestures by voting massively for him on January 16, 2027.

“We are looking for 800,000 votes, representing 90 per cent of registered voters in the state, from the people of Ekiti. This is because the candidates of the APM, PDP and SDP are teaming up with Governor Oyebanji to mobilise massive votes for President Tinubu.

“Those of us in the North seem to be giving more support to Tinubu than those in the South-West, and we have resolved to give and deliver all our votes from A to Z to ensure he is re-elected.

“President Tinubu has reduced inflation and the prices of food items by 50 per cent. The question we are asking those in the opposition is: What are they going to do differently?”

The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described President Bola Tinubu as a performer who deserved to be returned for a second term in office.

He said: “Here in Ekiti State, we have so many ongoing road projects being constructed by Mr President, as well as several other projects.

“Our government here has done very, very well and was re-elected on the basis of its performance. The same applies to the President. I look forward to the people of Ekiti coming out in their numbers to vote for President Tinubu, as well as all APC National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates in the state.”

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, while addressing the mammoth crowd at the event, said the people of the state had made up their minds to double the number of votes they gave President Tinubu in the June 20 election when they go to the polls on January 16, 2027.

The governor said: “The support of Mr President for our administration has been unprecedented in the 30-year history of our state. Since the creation of Ekiti State, no president has been this good to the people of Ekiti.

“We are one, and Ekiti is united. I have all the candidates of other political parties, the worthy candidates of other political parties who contested against me in the June election, here with me. All our former governors, Governor Fayose, Governor Niyi Adebayo and Governor Kayode Fayemi, are physically present here.”

While assuring the people that nothing stood between the APC and victory in Ekiti State, he said:

“I can say it boldly here that there is no problem in Ekiti State. We are going to return the President with nothing less than 80 per cent of the total votes in Ekiti State. That is a charge to all Ekiti people, and I am standing here to give you that assurance.”

The PDP governorship candidate, Oluyede, said:

“We, as an opposition party, are standing firm and standing by our governor today, showing the governor and the President that we are going to deliver 99 per cent of the votes to him.

“There is no opposition in Ekiti. Governor Oyebanji has done good work in Ekiti, and the President has been kind and generous to us. We have seen his good work.

“So, I am going to ask all of you, sons and daughters of Ekiti, to come out in January and vote for the President. We need you to come out en masse. We have 1,028,000 votes to deliver, and I am looking forward to that. Thank you very much.”
