Anosike Unveils ‘Operation Feed Abia’, Promises Skills, Grants for Graduates
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has proposed an “Operation Feed Abia” programme aimed at increasing agricultural production, improving food security and creating opportunities for young people.
Anosike said the programme would form part of his proposed welfare and economic development agenda if elected governor in 2027.
He described the initiative as a “back-to-farm” policy and said agriculture should be used not only to produce food but also to create employment and income for Abia residents.
The candidate said his broader education policy would focus on ensuring that students graduate with both academic qualifications and practical skills.
“Never again will any Abian graduate without a skill,” he said.
According to him, graduates who acquire vocational or technical skills would also be supported through entrepreneurship grants to enable them establish businesses.
He argued that government should recognise the limitations of depending entirely on white-collar employment and instead equip young people with practical skills that can create economic opportunities.
Anosike’s proposed agricultural programme would also involve encouraging citizens to return to farming and developing agriculture as an economic sector.
He has previously said that Operation Feed Abia would include modernising farm settlements, restoring agricultural extension services, mechanising farming and encouraging local governments to support farmers with tractors.
The PDP candidate has also linked agriculture to youth employment and food security, saying the state has the potential to use agriculture as a major pathway for economic development.
In his wider education proposal, Anosike said government would support students through educational welfare programmes and provide opportunities for graduates to develop entrepreneurial capacity.
The proposals are part of the 10-point welfarist agenda he has presented ahead of the 2027 Abia governorship election, under which he has also outlined plans covering workers’ welfare, healthcare, economic development and other areas.
