Anosike Promises ₦90,000 Minimum Wage, Civil Service Care for Abia Workers
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has promised to pay a minimum wage of ₦90,000 to workers if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.
Anosike made the promise while explaining his proposed welfare-oriented approach to governance during an interview.
According to him, the proposed wage would be applied across the workforce, with the objective of improving workers’ welfare and restoring what he described as the dignity of the Abia State civil service.
He also proposed a programme he called “Civil Service Care”, which he said would include health insurance for workers.
Anosike further promised measures aimed at improving the welfare of retired civil servants under a proposed “Pension Plus” programme.
He said the initiative would go beyond the payment of pensions to include interventions such as medical allowances and health insurance facilities for elderly former civil servants.
The PDP candidate also pledged to clear outstanding workers’ allowances, pensions and gratuities within his first 100 days in office, if elected.
He said allowances attached to promotions and annual leave should be paid when workers become entitled to them.

“Every worker is entitled to his wages,” Anosike said, stressing that improved welfare would be central to his administration.
He also proposed the provision of official vehicles for directors and magistrates as part of efforts to improve the working conditions and status of public officials.

Anosike’s civil service proposals form part of his wider 10-point welfarist agenda, which places workers’ welfare among the issues he says would receive priority under his administration.
During the interview, however, the feasibility of his proposed expansion of the public workforce was questioned by the interviewers, who asked about the number of workers involved and the potential cost to the state.
Anosike maintained that the proposals were feasible but said a proper audit would be necessary to establish the exact number of affected workers and determine the precise financial implications.
He added that salary harmonisation would also be required because, according to him, workers currently receive different additions following the implementation of the minimum wage.
