The Air Peace chairman also applauded Fidelity Bank for successfully completing its recapitalisation exercise ahead of the deadline stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He described the successful Eurobond repayment and early completion of the recapitalisation exercise as further evidence of sound corporate governance and sustainable financial management.

The CBN had directed banks to meet revised minimum capital requirements under its banking sector recapitalisation programme, with the deadline set for March 31, 2026.

Onyema’s commendation comes against the backdrop of the importance of financial stability and adequate capitalisation in strengthening the capacity of Nigerian banks to support businesses and contribute to economic growth.

Highlights Banking-Aviation Partnership

Highlighting the relationship between the banking and aviation industries, Onyema underscored the importance of financially resilient institutions such as Fidelity Bank in supporting capital-intensive sectors, particularly aviation.

He noted that access to financing remained essential to fleet development, operational sustainability and the overall growth of the aviation industry.

According to him, strong partnerships between financial institutions and indigenous enterprises are indispensable to strengthening Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and advancing the country’s broader development aspirations.

The Air Peace chief congratulated Onyeali-Ikpe, the Board, Management and entire Fidelity Bank workforce on the achievements, expressing confidence in the institution’s capacity to attain even greater milestones.

He also reaffirmed Air Peace’s goodwill towards Fidelity Bank, wishing the institution continued growth, enduring stability and greater accomplishments in Nigeria’s financial services landscape.

Fidelity Bank’s $400 million Eurobond was issued with a five-year maturity period. Its repayment at maturity using internal liquidity was the central achievement highlighted by Onyema in his congratulatory message.

The bank’s recapitalisation was also cited as a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen its capital base and position itself to support businesses across different sectors of the Nigerian economy.
