‎Edo APC Stalwarts Kick As Only Oshiomhole, Shaibu Make 2027 Campaign Council

‎The recently released All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections has generated controversy in Edo State over what many party stalwarts describe as “marginal representation.”

‎

‎According to a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday in Abuja, the Campaign Council has former Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State as Director-General.

‎

‎Only two Edo indigenes were named on the list. They are former Governor of Edo State and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

‎

‎Comrade Oshiomhole will serve as Deputy Director-General, Mobilization, while Comrade Shaibu will serve as a Mobilizer on the Sports Mobilization Team.

‎Coincidentally, both Oshiomhole and Shaibu are from Edo North Senatorial District. This has left many APC stalwarts from Edo South and Edo Central feeling isolated and underrepresented in the national structure.

‎Speaking to journalists, a chieftain of the party from Edo South, who pleaded anonymity, said:

‎”It is painful that a state like Edo, which delivered the governorship, majority in the House of Assembly and National Assembly seats to the APC, will only have two names and both from one senatorial district. This does not reflect fairness and inclusion.”

‎Also reacting, a leader from Edo Central said:

‎”We are not saying Comrade Oshiomhole and Comrade Shaibu do not deserve it. But what about Edo Central and Edo South? We have capable men and women who have laboured for this party. The national leadership should look into this and correct the imbalance before it creates problems for us in 2027.”

‎Another party member added:

‎”Edo is APC and APC is Edo. If we want to win convincingly in 2027, all zones must feel carried along. This list as it is, has demoralized many of us.”

‎

‎The APC is presently the ruling party in Edo State. Apart from producing the State Governor, the party also controls Edo’s seats in the National Assembly and has the majority in the State House of Assembly.

‎

‎Stakeholders are now calling on the national leadership of the party to review the list and ensure broader representation across the three senatorial districts ahead of 2027.
