August 07, () — Nigeria’s heated political battle ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election took another dramatic turn on Friday as Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, launched a stinging social media response to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, after the governor mocked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his trademark dancing.

The latest exchange has triggered a fierce political and social media storm, with supporters of both camps trading accusations while debates shifted from governance to academic credentials and personal attacks.

The controversy began when Okpebholo, while addressing supporters during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Osun State, ridiculed Governor Adeleke’s dancing style and urged voters to reject him at the forthcoming governorship election.

“Is Osun State not tired of having a dancing governor? Before he signs paper, he will dance. For four years he has been dancing. He’s Obaseki’s friend. We have to kick him out the way we kicked Obaseki out of Edo,” Okpebholo declared.

His comments immediately drew reactions from supporters of the Osun governor, including Davido.

Davido Fires Back

Hours after the governor’s remarks, Davido responded on his verified social media platform by posting what he described as Governor Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result alongside the governor’s photograph.

One X user, @seguntoogun, wrote: “Davido should post his uncle Ademola Adeleke’s WAEC result too, make we compare.”

Another user, @ibrahim.faridat, simply remarked: “This fight go long.”

Reacting to the alleged mathematics grade, @ocoloche wrote: “He copied the maths well then. See the government he’s running today.”

Another commenter, @shaibusamuel.abbaadams, joked: “Omor, na so past dey hunt person. Make I go update my WAEC result before dem disgrace me.”

However, several Nigerians cautioned against ridiculing examination performance.

Uzodinma Joins The Battle

The controversy further escalated when Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, entered the conversation through a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

Uzodinma claimed Governor Adeleke had performed poorly in office and predicted that Osun voters would reject him at the polls.

“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026 governorship election,” the statement said.

According to him, political signals from across Osun suggested that voters were ready for a change of government.

Taking a swipe at Davido, Uzodinma further remarked that the singer should prepare to offer his uncle a place in his music career after the election.
