ARMY EXPANSION: 24 BRIGADE SEEKS TIMELY INTELLIGENCE FROM TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO TACKLE CRIME IN WASE
The Commander, 24 Armour Brigade, Colonel Haruna Bala, has called on traditional institutions in Wase and its environs to provide timely and credible intelligence on criminal activities to enable troops respond promptly to security threats.
Colonel Bala made the call on Friday, 6 November 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Rekna of Bashar, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr Abdullahi Idris Isah, in Bashar, Plateau State. The traditional ruler highlighted security concerns, including kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery. The Commander assured the monarch of a comprehensive assessment of the challenges and urged the Emirate Council and residents to strengthen cooperation with troops through actionable information.

Earlier, the Commander visited 175 Motorcycle Battalion in Wase, where he explained that the recent expansion of the Nigerian Army necessitated changes in the nomenclature and organisational structure of some units, including the redesignation of the Battalion to 175 Motorcycle Battalion. He noted that the expansion was aimed at strengthening troop presence, extending operational reach and enhancing the Army’s capacity to tackle emerging security threats.
He also reaffirmed the Chief of Army Staff’s commitment to troop welfare under the Soldier First culture and charged personnel to intensify efforts towards combating criminal activities and protecting lives and property.
In furtherance of the expansion initiative, Colonel Bala inspected the proposed site for the construction of new barracks for the battalion, aimed at improving troop accommodation and strengthening operational effectiveness in the area.
The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to force expansion, improved troop welfare and stronger collaboration with traditional institutions to enhance security.
