APC FUMES! 14 DAYS TO APOLOGISE OR FACE SANCTIONS: Orji Kalu, Others Put on the Spot

The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has summoned former Abia State Governor and serving Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK), Dr. Chris Nkwonta, member representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency,  and former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah, before its Disciplinary Committee over alleged anti-party comments.

The development was disclosed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru , while addressing journalists at the APC secretariat in Umuahia.

According to Aguoru, the party considers some of the public statements attributed to the two APC chieftains to be contrary to the interests and rules of the party.

The controversy reportedly stems from comments made by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a national television appearance, where he allegedly expressed support for, or predicted victory for, a candidate of a rival political party in the forthcoming governorship election.

The party also questioned comments allegedly made by Dr. Uche Ogah in the presence of prominent political figures, which it said could be interpreted as support for opposition interests.

Aguoru stressed that party leaders are expected to abide by the constitution and directives of the APC, insisting that no member, regardless of status, is above the party’s rules.

The APC spokesman said the affected chieftains have been given 14 days to tender apologies, warning that failure to do so would trigger disciplinary action.

“If, after 14 days, OUK and Nwkonta fail to tender apologies, the Disciplinary Committee will impose appropriate sanctions,” Aguoru told journalists.

The party said the Disciplinary Committee would examine the allegations and give the affected members an opportunity to respond before taking any final decision.

The development has heightened political tension within the Abia APC as the party continues to position itself ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Abia APC also reaffirmed its claim of having more than 200,000 registered members spread across wards and polling units in the state, describing itself as one of the strongest political structures in Abia.

With the 14-day deadline now hanging over the two prominent APC figures, attention is expected to shift to whether they will comply with the party’s demand or challenge the disciplinary process.
