August 15, () — Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, recorded a commanding victory at his polling unit on Saturday, securing an overwhelming 421 votes as results from the governorship election continued to emerge across the state.

The official result announced at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North Local Government Area, showed Adeleke polling 421 votes, handing the incumbent governor a decisive victory in his political base.

The declaration sparked jubilation among supporters, who celebrated the outcome with singing, dancing and chants shortly after the result was announced.

The emphatic victory reinforces Adeleke’s dominance in Ede, widely regarded as his political stronghold, and provides an early boost to his quest for a second term as votes continue to be collated statewide.

Earlier, Adeleke had expressed confidence in retaining office after casting his ballot at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, saying he was optimistic that the electorate would renew his mandate based on his administration’s performance.

His main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also voiced confidence after voting at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area, insisting that his party would emerge victorious.

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, alleged that his party’s agents were not recognised in several polling locations across the state, urging electoral authorities to address the situation.

As voting gave way to collation, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continued uploading polling unit results to its Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

A check by at 6.02 p.m. showed that 2,184 out of the state’s 3,763 polling unit results had been uploaded, reflecting a steady increase in the pace of electronic result transmission.

The uploads have enabled voters, political parties and election observers to monitor the collation process in real time, in line with INEC’s commitment to improving transparency and public confidence in elections.

With collation ongoing across Osun’s 30 local government areas, the focus has shifted to the final aggregation of results that will determine whether Adeleke secures another four-year term or if the opposition can force an upset.

The Osun governorship election is one of Nigeria’s most closely watched off-cycle elections, featuring incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, ADC candidate Najeem Salaam and other contenders. The poll followed weeks of intense campaigns, political realignments, allegations and heightened security, with the outcome expected to shape the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
