Kaduna PDP Chairman Vows To Resist Alleged Illegal Arrest, Intimidation Of Government Critics

“Masha Accuses Officials, LG Chairmen of Suppressing Dissent, Questions Fertiliser Distribution”

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Hon. Edward Percy Masha, has declared that the party will resist what he described as the alleged illegal arrest, intimidation and harassment of citizens who criticise the administration of Governor Uba Sani.

Masha made the declaration on Wednesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s Secretary, who had previously served in an acting capacity.

The PDP chairman alleged that some government officials and local government chairmen were using their positions to intimidate critics and suppress dissenting voices across the state.

He insisted that elected and appointed public officials must operate within the provisions of the law and respect the fundamental rights of citizens, particularly the constitutional right to freedom of expression.

According to him, the PDP will not remain silent whenever it perceives actions by government officials as attempts to silence opposition voices or intimidate citizens for expressing their views about government policies and programmes.

Masha also raised questions over what he described as a lack of transparency and accountability in the administration of Governor Uba Sani, citing the ongoing distribution of fertiliser across the state as a particular area of concern.

He described the fertiliser distribution exercise as a “sham”, alleging that it could be politically motivated and designed to provide electoral advantage to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP chairman argued that government programmes and public resources should be administered fairly and transparently for the benefit of all residents, irrespective of political affiliation.

He said the opposition party would continue to scrutinise government policies and programmes and challenge any action it considers unlawful, discriminatory or contrary to the interests of Kaduna residents.

Masha further called on citizens to remain vigilant and demand accountability from public officials entrusted with state resources.

He maintained that democratic governance requires openness, accountability, constructive criticism and respect for the rule of law, warning that attempts to suppress legitimate criticism could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.

The allegations made by the PDP chairman, however, remain claims by the opposition party and would require responses from the Kaduna State Government and any officials directly implicated for a fuller and balanced account.

The event was welled attention by party supporters, loyalists and other top officials of the party including the Hon.Amos Adamu Gandu the Deputy Governoship candidate of the PDP who represented the governorship candidate Hon Usman Bawa (ABG), the event is an indication that PDP Kaduna state is preparing to take back power comes 2027.
