The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State on Wednesday intensified preparations for the 2027 governorship election with the inauguration of a nine member Campaign Strategy Committee and the official unveiling of Mr. Amos Adamu Gandu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa (ABG).

The development marks a significant milestone in the party’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and position itself for a vigorous challenge in the next governorship contest across Kaduna State’s 23 local government areas.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Kaduna, the PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa (ABG), said the committee had been mandated to produce a comprehensive campaign blueprint that would guide the party’s activities ahead of the 2027 election.

According to him, the committee would identify committed party members at ward and local government levels and recommend practical strategies for strengthening the PDP’s structures across the state.

Bawa said the party had carefully reviewed lessons from previous elections and was determined not to repeat past mistakes.

“We have set up a team that will block all leakages and ensure that the mistakes of the previous election do not happen again.”

The PDP flag bearer further identified insecurity as a major issue that would feature prominently in the party’s campaign agenda, stressing the urgent need to restore peace and stability across Kaduna State.

He condemned the recent attacks in Kauru Local Government Area and other affected communities, describing the continued killings and abductions as unacceptable and deeply disturbing.

Calling for a united front against insecurity, Bawa urged the Kaduna State Government to work closely with political parties, traditional institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions.

“This is beyond politics. It requires all stakeholders to come together and contribute ideas that will bring lasting peace to Kaduna State,” he stated.

Earlier, the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Edward Marshal, said members of the committee were selected based on competence, experience, commitment, and proven performance within the party.

Marshal charged the committee members to engage extensively with stakeholders across the state and submit a comprehensive report within two weeks.

“The committee is expected to develop a campaign template that reflects the peculiarities of different parts of Kaduna State,” he said.

The PDP chairman also outlined some of the priorities of a future PDP led administration, including civil service reforms aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening traditional institutions to enable them play more effective roles in addressing insecurity and promoting peaceful coexistence.

He expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of Kaduna State, particularly in Kachia Local Government Area, where several kidnapped victims remain in captivity, and called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward securing lives and property.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Hon. Samuel Yakubu Arabo, a former member of the House of Representatives, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee and pledged that members would carry out their assignment with diligence, commitment, and a sense of responsibility.

The committee has Professor Umar Lawal as Secretary and has been tasked with recommending strategies to strengthen the PDP’s campaign structure, voter mobilization framework, and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 Kaduna governorship election.

Political observers believe the inauguration of the committee and the unveiling of Amos Adamu Gandu as deputy governorship candidate have provided fresh momentum to the PDP’s preparations as political activities gather pace across Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 polls.

With a campaign structure now taking shape and party leaders emphasizing unity, security, and grassroots mobilization, the PDP says it is determined to present a credible alternative and reconnect with voters across the state.
