Abia LP Chairman Backs Amobi Ogah, Says Performance Should Decide 2027 Contest

The Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, has thrown his full support behind the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, saying the lawmaker has earned the right to seek another term through his outstanding performance.

Speaking during an interactive session with MEDIA TODAY NIGERIA in Umuahia on Monday, Azubuike said there was no political justification for replacing a representative who has made significant contributions to his constituency within a single term.

While acknowledging the constitutional right of former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to contest any elective office, he argued that public office should be determined by performance and not longevity in politics.

According to him, Onyejeocha spent sixteen years in the House of Representatives before serving as a minister, while Ogah has recorded remarkable achievements in less than four years.

He described the federal lawmaker as one of the country’s most effective first-term legislators, citing constituency projects, empowerment programmes and legislative contributions as evidence of his impact.

Azubuike urged political stakeholders in the constituency to embrace healthy competition and avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary political tension.

The Labour Party chairman reaffirmed the party’s support for Hon. Ogah, expressing optimism that voters would reward competence and effective representation during the next election.
