EdoBTVET, Federal Ministry of Labour, GIZ-ZME Sensitise BTC Trainees on Regular Migration
The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EdoBTVET), Mrs. Onomen Briggs Esq., with the Federal Ministry of Labour, GIZ-ZME, has urged trainees of Benin Technical College to remain committed to acquiring relevant technical and vocational skills while making informed and lawful migration decisions.
Mrs. Briggs gave the advice during a sensitisation programme on regular migration organised by EdoBTVET in collaboration with the Migrant Resource Centre of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME) for trainees enrolled in various technical and vocational training programmes at the College premises in Ugbowo, Edo State.
She commended the partnership between EdoBTVET, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and GIZ-ZME for promoting awareness of safe and regular migration among young people. According to her, technical and vocational education provides valuable opportunities for self-reliance and career advancement, stressing that trainees should avoid the risks associated with irregular migration and embrace legal migration pathways where necessary.
The Chairman encouraged the participants to maximise the opportunities available through skills acquisition to build sustainable careers, contribute meaningfully to national development and compete favourably in the global workforce.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Migrant Resource Centre, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mrs. Joan Anih, educated participants on the importance of adhering to approved migration procedures. She urged trainees to seek accurate and reliable information before making migration decisions and to utilise the services of the Migrant Resource Centre to facilitate safe, orderly and informed migration.
The State Coordinator of the GIZ-ZME, Mrs. Eseosa Oluku, emphasised the importance of complementing vocational skills acquisition with adequate knowledge of migration processes. She noted that technical and vocational education equips young people with employable skills that can create sustainable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities both within Nigeria and abroad when pursued through legal and structured channels.
The sensitisation programme forms part of the ongoing collaborative efforts of EdoBTVET, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and GIZ-ZME to empower young people with knowledge on safe and regular migration, strengthen their career prospects and promote informed migration decisions through skills development and public awareness initiatives.
