2027 elections: AAC demands EFCC oversight of Oyo government expenditure

The African Action Congress, AAC, in Oyo State has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, urging the anti-graft agency to closely monitor and scrutinise the disbursement of state funds ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The petition, dated September 9, 2026, was submitted through the party’s legal representatives, Damilare Adenola and Co Law Practice, and was received by the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Office on September 14.

In the letter addressed to the Zonal Director of the EFCC in Ibadan, the AAC called for vigilant oversight of the spending pattern of the Oyo State Government during the election period.

The party, through its Oyo State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, said it has a legitimate interest in ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

According to the AAC, effective monitoring of government expenditure before, during and after elections is necessary to prevent the misuse of public funds for political purposes.

The party maintained that safeguarding public resources during the election cycle is essential to promoting accountability and protecting the integrity of the democratic process.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not issued any official response to the petition.
