Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has explained that his administration is adopting a strategic, economically driven approach to road infrastructure development, with priority given to roads that have the greatest impact on business activities, economic growth and the livelihoods of residents.

Governor Otti disclosed this on Friday, October 30, 2026, during the October edition of his monthly media chat, tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” where he explained the rationale behind the government’s road project priorities and its plans to extend rehabilitation efforts to other parts of the state.
The Governor noted that his administration had undertaken an assessment of the state’s road network, categorising projects based on their economic significance, urgency and the level of intervention required.

According to him, major roads in Aba and Umuahia initially received priority attention because of their deplorable conditions, which had significantly affected commercial activities, restricted the movement of people and goods, weakened internally generated revenue and contributed to unemployment and poverty.

He explained that restoring critical road infrastructure in the state’s two major urban centres was necessary to revive economic activities, improve connectivity and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
Governor Otti emphasised that the government’s approach was designed to ensure that available resources were directed towards projects capable of delivering the greatest immediate benefits to residents and the wider economy.
He, however, assured Abians that other roads across the state would not be neglected, explaining that the government would progressively address outstanding infrastructure needs as financial resources became available.
The Governor stressed that responsible governance required careful financial planning and realistic commitments, noting that his administration would not embark on unsustainable projects or make promises beyond its available resources.
He maintained that the government’s road development strategy was guided by the need to balance pressing infrastructure demands with fiscal responsibility, ensuring that projects were undertaken in a manner that would support long-term development without placing unnecessary financial burdens on the state.
The clarification underscores the administration’s commitment to prioritising critical infrastructure, stimulating economic growth and gradually improving road conditions across Abia State within the limits of available resources.
