Abia Sustains Massive Road Infrastructure Drive as Gov. Alex Otti Expands Direct Labour Projects Across the State
The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, with the administration of Governor Alex Otti intensifying road construction and maintenance efforts across the state despite recently completing and commissioning a significant number of projects.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu disclosed that the Otti-led administration has maintained an aggressive pace in its road infrastructure renewal programme, a development that continues to transform both urban and rural communities across Abia State.
According to him, the government has not slowed down after the commissioning of about 25 roads during the activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Otti’s administration.
He noted that the state’s infrastructure agenda remains a top priority, with ongoing interventions aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, and enhancing the quality of life of residents.
Providing further details, the Commissioner revealed that direct labour operations have been successfully carried out in 49 locations across the state as part of the government’s strategic road maintenance and rehabilitation programme. He added that two of the projects undertaken through direct labour have already been completed, while three additional projects have been incorporated into the maintenance schedule of the Ministry of Works.
The continued expansion of direct labour operations, according to government officials, underscores the administration’s determination to ensure that critical roads remain motorable while accelerating infrastructure delivery in a cost-effective manner.
The sustained road construction and maintenance efforts have become one of the defining features of the Otti administration, reflecting its broader vision of rebuilding public infrastructure, opening up communities for economic growth, and creating a more accessible and prosperous Abia State.
With new projects continually being added to the pipeline and existing ones progressing steadily, the state government has signaled that its infrastructure revolution remains firmly on course, with no signs o
f slowing down.
