World PR Day: NIPR Inspires Visually Challenged Students on Character, Communication
The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abia State Chapter, Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, fnipr, has urged students of the School of the Blind, Afara, Umuahia, to embrace integrity, respect, continuous learning and self-confidence as they pursue their dreams.
She gave the charge during the chapter’s visit to the school to mark World Public Relations Day, stressing that public relations goes beyond media publicity, but is about building trust and maintaining positive relationships.
She told the students that effective communication begins with everyday actions such as kindness, honesty, respect and active listening.
“Public relations is not only about television, radio or speaking to the media. It begins with the way we treat people every day. It is about respect, kindness, honesty, listening and building trust,” she said.
The NIPR Chairman encouraged the students not to allow their circumstances or limitations define their future, noting that every person has unique abilities and talents to contribute to society.
She identified self-belief, respectful communication and continuous learning as key principles for personal growth, urging the students to build their reputation through truthfulness, discipline, hard work and kindness.
“Never allow anyone to define your future by what you cannot do. Let people know you by your character, knowledge, discipline and determination,” she advised.
The Chapter Chairman said members of NIPR were inspired by the courage and resilience of the students, describing their determination as a reminder that true strength comes from within.
She urged them to make three commitments: to believe in themselves, keep learning and treat others with respect and kindness.
“Your reputation starts now. It is built by being truthful, respectful, hardworking, punctual and kind. These are the same values we promote in public relations because they help us build trust wherever we go,” she added.
In her remarks, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Ngozi Emelike, appreciated the NIPR Abia State Chapter, led by Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, for identifying with the school and creating time to inspire the students.
