Nkporo New Yam Festival: Bourdex Calls for Unity, Strong Representation, Shared Prosperity in Abia North

NKPORO, ABIA — The Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Abia North, David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, has called for greater unity, brotherhood and purposeful representation across Abia North Senatorial District.

Bourdex made the call while representing the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, at the New Yam Festival of the people of Nkporo Ancient Kingdom.

He conveyed the Deputy Governor’s warm greetings and congratulations to the traditional institution, community leaders, President Generals, women, youths and the entire Nkporo community, while wishing the people continued peace, prosperity and abundant harvests.

The event also brought together prominent sons and daughters of Nkporo, including former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, alongside other distinguished guests and friends of the community.

Speaking on the significance of the celebration, Bourdex described the New Yam Festival as more than a cultural event, saying it represents the enduring bonds of history, family, commerce and friendship among communities.

He particularly highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nkporo and Abiriba, describing the two communities as brothers whose relationship predates politics.

> “Nkporo and Abiriba are brothers. Our relationship predates politics. Our histories, families and destinies have been intertwined for generations,” Bourdex said.

He added that he considers Nkporo home whenever he visits the community, expressing appreciation for the warm reception accorded him during the festival.

Bourdex further urged the people of Abia North to look beyond individual interests and work towards building a region where communities enjoy effective representation and benefit from opportunities created through good governance.

According to him, the message of the New Yam Festival is particularly relevant to the future of the region, as the harvest represents the reward for what is planted.

He therefore called on the people to continue planting the “seeds of unity, brotherhood, good governance and shared prosperity.”

The Labour Party candidate also urged continued support for the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti and his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, as they pursue the rebuilding and repositioning of Abia State.

Bourdex expressed gratitude to the Eze Aja of Nkporo Kingdom, Eze Dr. Jef Iro Kalu Otisi, the traditional institution and the people of Nkporo for their hospitality.

He concluded by reaffirming his belief in the unity of the two communities and the collective future of Abia North.

“Nkporo and Abiriba are brothers. We are one people. And our future must be built together,” he said.

He wished the people of Nkporo a fruitful celebration, praying for peace, prosperity and abundant harvests across the kingdom, Abia North and Abia State.
