Sanwo-Olu Launches ‘Snacks for Thought’ in Lagos, Seeks Private Partners for Public Schools
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the pilot phase of the Adopt-A-School PBAT Feeds initiative, _“Snacks for Thought,”_ at Lagos Island East LCDA. He stressed that learning cannot happen when children are hungry.
Speaking for the governor, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the programme is a joint effort that will boost pupil nutrition, improve classroom performance, and build stronger human capital.
Lagos is hosting the pilot under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. Salu-Hundeyin noted that it shows the shared resolve of the Federal Government, Lagos Government and private actors to give Nigerian children better opportunities.
She described the scheme as more than feeding. According to her, it is based on the idea that hunger should not stop any child from learning, and that everyone must contribute to the country’s future through its children.
Sanwo-Olu commended President Bola Tinubu for driving policies that focus on education, nutrition and human capital under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also applauded First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her consistent support for children and vulnerable groups.
He said pupils who eat well are more likely to be in school, take part in lessons, and reach their potential. The initiative will also support local businesses, he added, because food will be sourced locally, creating demand for farmers, processors, caterers and small enterprises.
The governor reaffirmed that education remains a priority under Lagos’ THEMES+ Agenda. He cited investments in classrooms, teacher training, digital learning, school health services and better learning spaces.
He urged companies, banks, professional groups, foundations, faith bodies, alumni networks and individuals to back the Adopt-A-School model. He said the programme is a long-term investment in Lagos’ workforce and prosperity, and expressed hope that every public primary school in the state will get a partner.
Sanwo-Olu also unveiled the Adopt-A-School Dashboard, calling it a key tool for transparency. The platform lets sponsors pick schools, track delivery and monitor impact in real time.
He asked partners to sign up via the programme’s QR Code, adopt schools, and follow the results of their support. He assured sponsors of a supportive environment and strong accountability, and said MDAs have been instructed to work with coordinators and use the dashboard actively.
