Chaos in Onitsha as traders block expressway over alleged police shooting

Tension has reportedly erupted around Ogbogwu Junction in Onitsha, Anambra State, after a Police officer allegedly shot a young trader who was said to be delivering a package for waybilling.
Following the incident, traders and residents reportedly blocked the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway towards the Onitsha Head Bridge, disrupting traffic and protesting the alleged shooting.
Videos circulating online showed a large crowd gathered around the area, with reports of traders closing their shops and confronting Police officers. Smoke was also reportedly seen coming from a Police truck at the scene.
The situation reportedly drew the intervention of soldiers, who moved in to help restore calm as tensions continued to rise.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the condition of the young man, remain unclear. The Anambra State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of reporting.
The incident has triggered outrage online, with some Nigerians demanding accountability while others expressed concern over the reported confrontation between residents and security operatives.
