Police Break Silence on VeryDarkMan, Invite Him to Defend Allegations Against AIG Moshood Jimoh

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to due process, institutional discipline, and the rule of law amid the ongoing controversy involving social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Moshood Jimoh.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police clarified that the criminal matter referenced by VeryDarkMan has already been investigated and is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the Force, because the case is sub judice, it will not comment further on the matter or allow public opinion to influence the judicial process.

The Police, however, disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning as part of an internal administrative investigation into the allegations levelled against him.

Similarly, the Force revealed that on July 30, 2026, the Force CID in Abuja formally invited VeryDarkMan to appear before investigators and provide evidence to substantiate the allegations he has made publicly against the senior police officer.

The statement emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to investigating all credible complaints of misconduct regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the status of the complainant.

It noted that disciplinary actions within the Force are guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders, and other established administrative procedures.

While acknowledging every Nigerian’s constitutional right to freedom of expression and to demand accountability from public institutions, the Police warned that such rights do not extend to defamation or the publication of unsubstantiated allegations intended to force disciplinary action outside lawful procedures.

The Force stressed that any officer found culpable after a thorough investigation would face appropriate sanctions in line with the law. It also cautioned that where allegations are proven to be false and deliberately aimed at damaging the reputation of an officer or the institution, it reserves the right to pursue legal action.

The Police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation extended by the Force CID and cooperate with investigators while allowing the ongoing judicial proceedings to take their course.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and accountability, the Nigeria Police Force maintained that no officer is above the law and no genuine complaint will be ignored, insisting that disciplinary measures will only be taken through the procedures prescribed by law.
