Yayi Awards Scholarships, Bursaries to 5,312 Ogun Students

Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has presented scholarships and bursaries to 5,312 students in tertiary institutions across Ogun State.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and is the 2027 All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state, made the presentation on Sunday in Abeokuta.

Speaking at the third edition of the scholarship programme, the senator commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, saying the initiative had improved access to tertiary education across the country.

Adeola described education as a key driver of human capital development and national progress, noting that the scholarship and bursary scheme was introduced to ensure that no academically brilliant student is forced to abandon their studies due to financial difficulties.

According to him, the 2025/2026 edition brings the total number of beneficiaries supported through the programme over the past three years to more than 10,000.

Of the 5,312 beneficiaries, 1,735 students received scholarships worth ₦200,000 each for university students and ₦150,000 each for students of polytechnics and colleges of education. Another 3,577 students received bursaries of ₦100,000 each.

Adeola said the initiative was part of his electoral promises to youths in Ogun West and complemented the educational programmes of Governor Dapo Abiodun and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He urged beneficiaries to use the funds strictly for educational needs such as school fees, accommodation and other academic expenses, stressing that the money was not intended for personal purchases.

The senator disclosed that the programme was being implemented in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre and aligned with the Federal Government’s education agenda.

He also highlighted other education-related interventions he had facilitated across Ogun State, including the construction of 87 classroom blocks, 18 ICT centres, provision of furniture to 35 schools, distribution of more than 200,000 textbooks and school bags, and the sponsorship of 10,000 JAMB forms for indigent students.

Adeola reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the annual scholarship and bursary programme while expanding educational infrastructure across the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Scholarship and Bursary Board, Prof. Tope Popoola, said the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden of education on students and their parents.

Popoola assured the public that the selection process remained transparent, noting that applications containing false information were disqualified.

He added that the programme would continue to expand with the aim of becoming a comprehensive state-wide scholarship and bursary scheme.
