The Abia state Police Command, Umuahia has raided criminal hideouts in Umuahia axis of the state capital, arrest criminal hideouts, discover illicit drugs and finally destroy the place and arrests 31 persons, made up of, 30 male suspects aged between 22–46 years and 1 female suspect.

1. In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa to strategic Officers of the Command and following the ongoing Command’s clearance operational strategies and sustained raids on criminal hideouts across the State, the Command has intensified efforts to take the fight to criminal enclaves.

2. Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Central Police Station, (CPS Umuahia) in collaboration with community vigilantes, carried out coordinated raids on identified black spots within the Mission Hill/New Road axis, in an area popularly known as “Down Below.” This location is an obscure area characterized by a deep valley stretching into the bush. Another criminal hideout at Amuzukwu, known for drug bunkering and a refuge for criminals, was also successfully raided.

3. During the operation, a total of 30 male suspects and 1 female Suspect were apprehended, while various substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs were recovered.

4. Furthermore, on 01/07/2026, following sustained intelligence, the same areas were revisited. Several huts and makeshift camps used as safe havens by criminals for concealment and sale of illicit drugs were identified. About eight (8) tents and camps constructed with baboon sticks and tarpaulin materials were destroyed and burnt to ashes to dislodge the criminal syndicates and disrupt their activities. All suspects have been charged to court and remanded at the correctional service.

5. The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to its constitutional duties and zero tolerance to crime and criminality. He assured that Abia State will remain unsafe for criminals and emphasized that the Command will continue to review and implement improved operational strategies to ensure the continuous safety of all residents, as the fight against crime will be taken directly to the criminal enclaves.
