Gov Fubara Restores Bonny School’s Glory After 20-Year Wait

The Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, has commended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for the comprehensive redevelopment of Bonny National Grammar School.

The monarch spoke on Friday at the inauguration of the remodelled and fully equipped school, describing the project as a significant investment in education and the future of Bonny Kingdom.

King Pepple said the intervention had gone beyond physical reconstruction to restore the dignity and legacy of an institution that has produced generations of accomplished Bonny indigenes.

He described Bonny National Grammar School as a longstanding centre of academic excellence, discipline and character formation, while applauding Governor Fubara for prioritising human capital development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Fubara said the completion of the project marked the end of more than two decades without the commissioning of a major government project in Bonny.

According to him, the redevelopment was aimed at restoring the historic school, established in 1965, and providing students with an environment capable of preparing them for emerging opportunities in the state’s economy.

Fubara noted that the presence of Nigeria LNG Limited and other industries in Bonny made quality education and skills development particularly important for preparing young people to benefit from the economic opportunities around them.

The governor also announced scholarships for Rivers State students who emerged winners of the recent Presidential Debate competition, directing the Ministry of Education to immediately commence the process.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peter Nwagor, said the project underscored the administration’s commitment to providing modern, safe and functional learning facilities across the state.

He listed the facilities at the remodelled school to include six classroom blocks, modern Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories, workshops, hostel accommodation, staff quarters, a sick bay and other supporting infrastructure.

Also speaking, Amasenibo Emmanuel Green described Fubara as a worthy son of Bonny, expressing appreciation for the governor’s role in transforming the historic institution and responding to the aspirations of the people.
