Two Die, Two Survive as Truck and Bus Burst Into Flames on Expressway Linking Lagos and Ogun
Two people died in the early hours of Thursday in a road crash on the Sagamu-Ore Expressway, a major route linking Lagos to other South-West states.
The accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere/J4 corridor in Ogun State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command.
FRSC spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi said a white Mack truck with registration ABC660XC collided with an orange Peugeot J5 bus. Four adult males were involved. Two died instantly while the remaining two escaped without injury.
“Preliminary findings indicate route violation and excessive speeding,” Odunsi said. The impact was so severe that the Peugeot bus caught fire and its front section was burnt beyond recognition.
Rescue officials from the FRSC arrived within two minutes and immediately diverted traffic to an alternative carriageway to reduce gridlock while clearing the wreckage.
The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, Ogbere Division, evacuated the corpses to the mortuary.
Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the victims’ families and cautioned motorists, especially those plying routes in and out of Lagos, to avoid speeding and route violations.
“Reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes nationwide. Drivers must be more careful, particularly during poor visibility and on wet roads,” he said.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to safer highways through enforcement, public education and prompt rescue operations.
