July 10 () — An Air Force helicopter carrying Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province, with all eight people on board escaping unhurt.
The vice president was travelling with seven other occupants aboard the Zambian Air Force helicopter when it went down moments after departing from Nakonde, a district in northern Zambia where she had been on official government duties.
Zambian authorities confirmed that all eight occupants, including Nalumango, survived the crash without sustaining any injuries. Emergency responders and security personnel swiftly attended to the scene, while government officials assured the public that everyone aboard the aircraft was safe.
Although details surrounding the accident remain limited, officials said the helicopter crashed shortly after take-off. The type of aircraft involved and the extent of the damage were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the crash. Aviation and military investigators are expected to launch a comprehensive probe to determine the circumstances that led to the incident, including whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or other operational factors played a role.
