SA Actor & Activist, Siv Ngesi Sparks Debate After Condemning Intimidation of Chidimma Adetshina
South African actor and activist Siv Ngesi has found himself at the centre of a fierce online debate after reacting to a viral video showing demonstrators surrounding and apparently confronting beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina outside the Cape Town Regional Court.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, and quickly became one of the most talked-about videos on X, drawing intense reactions over immigration, nationalism, public safety and the treatment of Adetshina.
The footage, filmed on a city street lined with historic red-brick buildings, captured a visibly tense atmosphere as security personnel, members of the media and a large crowd of demonstrators gathered outside the court.
Some of the protesters were seen dressed in colours associated with the South African flag, while at least one demonstrator carried a placard declaring that South Africa is not a refugee site for African countries.
As the crowd pressed closer, the situation appeared increasingly volatile, with pushing, crowding and a tense standoff unfolding among those present. Cameras captured the confrontation as security personnel attempted to manage the growing crowd and maintain order.
The video soon spread rapidly across social media, reigniting the already heated debate surrounding immigration in South Africa and placing Adetshina once again at the centre of public controversy.
On August 20, Ngesi entered the conversation with a response that immediately divided opinion.
The actor, who has previously spoken openly about illegal immigration, made it clear that his position against undocumented immigration should not be mistaken for support for harassment, intimidation or mob action against individuals.
His intervention drew both praise and criticism online, with supporters applauding him for drawing a line between immigration enforcement and public intimidation, while others questioned his broader views on undocumented migrants.
The controversy has once again highlighted the deeply emotional and polarising nature of South Africa’s immigration debate, particularly when it intersects with high-profile public figures such as Chidimma Adetshina.
As the video continues to circulate and reactions pour in, Ngesi’s stance has added another dramatic layer to a conversation already charged with questions about borders, belonging, identity and the limits of public protest.
