August 19, () — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ) branch in Kebbi State, has commenced a two-week warning strike over the non-implementation of demands contained in the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement.
The warning strike commenced at midnight on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued by the union to the university’s governing council.
Confirming the development, the FUAZ-ASUU Chairman, Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi, said the union was compelled to embark on the strike after receiving no positive response or concrete action from the university council on the issues raised.
In a statement signed by Sanchi, the union said, “After the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued by the Congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ) branch, to the University Council over the non-implementation of the FGN-ASUU signed agreement, 2025.
“Regrettably, as of today, 18th August, 2026, we are yet to receive any positive response or concrete action from the University Council towards addressing the issues raised in the agreement.”
The union also said all academic activities had been suspended, including lectures and tutorials, examinations and continuous assessments, supervision of projects and theses, as well as Senate and Faculty Board meetings and other academic-related activities.
It, however, expressed regret over the inconvenience the strike might cause students and other members of the university community, stressing that the decision was not taken lightly.
“It has become imperative in order to draw the Council’s urgent attention to the lingering unresolved issues that have continued to undermine the welfare of our members and the smooth running of academic programmes in this university”, Sanchi said.
The union called for urgent action by the university authorities to resolve the outstanding issues and pave the way for the suspension of the warning strike.
