President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja, his first cabinet session since June 29, 2026, following another extended break in the council’s meetings.

The meeting, which commenced after Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber at about 2:30 pm, brought together the SGF, George Akume; NSA, Nuhu Ribadu; Head of the Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; ministers and other senior government officials.

The council observed a minute’s silence in honour of two former ministers who died in July — former Finance Minister Abubakar Alhaji, who served during the Ibrahim Babangida administration, and former Science and Technology Minister, Prof Turner Isoun, who served under Olusegun Obasanjo.

The latest FEC session follows the June 29 meeting, which was convened after a hiatus of more than two months and at which Tinubu swore in two new Federal Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission representing Bauchi and Kaduna States.
August 19, () — President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the State House, Abuja, marking the return of the highest policy-making body of the Federal Government after a seven-week break.
The President arrived at the Council Chamber at about 2:30 pm to chair the session, which commenced with the national anthem.
The meeting was attended by key members of the administration, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Council Honours Two Former Ministers
Before proceeding with the substantive business of the meeting, the council observed a minute’s silence in honour of two former members of the Federal Executive Council who died in July.
The first was Abubakar Alhaji, a former Minister of Finance who served during the administration of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida. Alhaji died on July 30, 2026.
The council also honoured Prof Turner Isoun, who served as Minister of Science and Technology under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Isoun died on July 15, 2026.
The tributes underscored the council’s recognition of the contributions made by the two former ministers to public service and national development.
