Nollywood actor Kunle Omisore has recounted a bizarre incident he says happened when he was invited to help resolve a dispute involving a woman who had accused him of wrongdoing.
Omisore made the revelation during an appearance on the African A-List podcast, where he narrated how the unexpected situation unfolded.
According to the actor, a woman accused him of damaging an item belonging to her. However, Omisore said the allegation left him confused because he claimed he had never met the woman and had no knowledge of the incident.
Determined to explain his side of the story, the actor said he went to the meeting where the matter was expected to be settled. He claimed that, upon arriving, he encountered people whom he identified as witches.
“Witches exist. I have gone to a meeting with witches before and came back to the house. Yes, they invited me. I went to settle a dispute,” he said.
Omisore explained that he told the leader at the gathering that he had never encountered the woman who accused him and had not damaged any of her belongings.
“And I told their leader that I have never met her before, nor did I ruin anything that belonged to her,” the actor added.
He also recalled that the people at the gathering looked quite different from the stereotypical image of witches often presented in Nollywood productions.
According to Omisore, they were not dressed in the frightening costumes or makeup commonly associated with witches in movies. Instead, he said they wore traditional iro and buba outfits, while some of them were seen carrying calabashes on their heads.
The actor’s account has attracted attention, particularly because of his claim that the encounter was unlike the fictional portrayal of witches frequently seen in Nigerian films.
His comments have also generated renewed interest in the place of traditional beliefs and spiritual practices in Nigerian society, as well as how such beliefs continue to influence Nollywood storytelling.
