Veteran Yoruba Actor Taiwo Adeshina ‘Elegbeje Ado’ Dies At 66 After Brief Illness

June 30 () — Veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has died at the age of 66 after a brief illness.

He died on Monday, June 29, 2026. His death was confirmed on Tuesday by actor Kunle Afod and Best of Nollywood Awards founder Seun Oloketuyi.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Afod wrote: “We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten.

“Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends, colleagues, and fans during this difficult time.

Adeshina spent more than 20 years in the Yoruba movie industry. He was known for playing traditional rulers, community elders and other cultural characters.

He got the name “Elegbeje Ado” from one of his best-known roles in a 1991 film, and it remained his stage name throughout his career.

He also appeared in films including “Ageku Abela,” “Oko Abiku,” and “Kadara Mi.”

Outside acting, Adeshina was a Christian minister. He left mainstream Nollywood in 2016 to focus on ministry before returning in 2025 to produce Christian films.

His death has drawn tributes from colleagues and fans, who praised his contribution to Yoruba cinema and the legacy he leaves behind.
