The party has pegged its House of Assembly expression of interest and nomination fees at N1 million and N5 million respectively, while House of Representatives aspirants are to pay N1 million for expression of interest and N9 million for nomination.
August 19, () — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has opened the race for a fresh set of legislative contests across five states, fixing Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to select candidates for four recently restored State House of Assembly constituencies and seven seats where legislative bye-elections are expected to be conducted.
The party’s timetable and schedule of activities, signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and released on Wednesday, directed its chapters in Delta, Kogi, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states to commence preparations for the exercise.
The timetable covers constituencies restored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following court judgments, as well as legislative seats that have become vacant and are due for bye-elections.
In Delta State, the restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II is the affected constituency in Kogi State.
The APC said the restoration of the four constituencies by INEC necessitated the conduct of fresh party primaries to enable it field candidates for the forthcoming legislative elections.
The affected constituencies had previously been suppressed, effectively denying residents direct representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly for years.
The restoration therefore represents a significant development for communities in the constituencies, as voters are now expected to regain the opportunity to elect lawmakers directly representing their interests at the state level.
Beyond the restored constituencies, the APC timetable also covers seven legislative bye-election seats in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.
The affected seats include the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency in Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
The Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat became vacant following the death of the serving lawmaker, Tongo Yaya, creating the need for a fresh election to fill the seat.
Under the APC timetable, aspirants began the process of obtaining expression of interest and nomination forms on Tuesday, August 18, with the exercise scheduled to end on Thursday, August 20.
The same August 20 deadline applies to the submission of completed forms and all accompanying documents.
The compressed timetable leaves aspirants with little room for delays as prospective candidates are required to complete the nomination process, submit their documentation and undergo the party’s screening exercise within a matter of days.
The party has scheduled the screening of aspirants, publication of screening results and consideration of screening appeals for Friday, August 21.
The primary elections will then take place across the affected constituencies on Saturday, August 22, barely 24 hours after the conclusion of the screening and appeals process.
Election appeals arising from the primaries are scheduled for Monday, August 24.
The timetable is expected to trigger intense political activity in the affected states as aspirants, party leaders and competing political interests move to secure the APC tickets ahead of the legislative contests.

For State House of Assembly positions, the expression of interest form costs N1 million, while the nomination fee is N5 million, bringing the total to N6 million.
For House of Representatives positions, aspirants are required to pay N1 million for expression of interest and N9 million as nomination fee, bringing the total to N10 million.
However, the party provided concessions for certain categories of aspirants.
According to the timetable, female aspirants, youths and physically challenged aspirants are required to pay the prescribed expression of interest fee but only 50 per cent of the nomination fee applicable to their respective positions.
The party further directed that all payments must be made in full directly into its designated bank account.

INEC Restoration Triggers Fresh Contest
The APC’s timetable is coming on the heels of INEC’s decision to restore the four previously suppressed constituencies in Delta and Kogi. The restoration followed legal battles over the affected constituencies, which had remained without direct representation in the State Houses of Assembly.
With the constituencies restored, political parties are now required to position candidates for the elections and mobilise their structures to compete for the newly reopened legislative seats.
For the APC, the process begins with the selection of candidates through its internal primary elections.
The party has consequently instructed its state chapters and stakeholders in the affected constituencies to adhere strictly to the approved timetable and ensure that all necessary preparations are completed ahead of the August 22 exercise.
