A United States District Judge, Beryl Howell, has granted Donald Trump-appointed US Attorney, Jeanine Pirro an additional four days to comply with an order concerning the release of alleged drug-trafficking records linked to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
The development was disclosed by Dr Von Batten-Montague-York in a post on X, where he said Judge Howell had extended the deadline after noting that the case had remained pending for more than three years.

The latest decision comes amid renewed efforts to compel the release of records reportedly held by key US law-enforcement agencies, including the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Pirro had reportedly sought an additional 10 days to comply with the court’s order relating to the records. However, Judge Howell granted only four additional days, setting August 21, 2026, as the new deadline for compliance.
The dispute has attracted renewed attention because of the length of time the matter has remained before the court and the continued calls for the records to be made public.
Von Batten-Montague-York described the latest development as a renewed push by Pirro and the Department of Justice toward releasing the documents, while arguing that the prolonged legal process should now come to an end.
“We deeply appreciate US Attorney Pirro and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the Tinubu drug-trafficking files is now,” he wrote.
He further argued that Washington’s strategic relationship with Nigeria should not be used as a reason to prevent the release of records that are the subject of the legal proceedings.
“As President Trump has indicated, our shared interests with Nigeria do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker,” he added.
The August 21 deadline now puts additional focus on the DOJ and the agencies involved as observers await the next step in the long-running case.
It remains important to note that allegations contained in or surrounding the records should not be treated as established facts unless and until they are substantiated through the appropriate legal process. The court’s order concerns the release and handling of records; it does not, by itself, establish criminal liability against Tinubu.
