In a move that immediately rippled through downstream energy markets, Dangote Petroleum Refinery reduced its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) gantry price by 4.12 percent, dropping from ₦1,215 per litre down to ₦1,165 per litre. Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) was simultaneously cut from ₦1,650 to ₦1,570 per litre.

The adjustment triggered immediate price reviews across major private supply hubs in Lagos, including MRS Tincan, Pinnacle, and Nipco, where ex-depot prices fell by roughly ₦49 to ₦50 per litre.

If verified by the official release, this represents the second consecutive monthly moderation in annual inflation. The easing trend is anchored by foreign exchange stability and early harvest yields.

However, month-on-month inflation is expected to tick upward to 1.81 percent due to transient PMS cost spikes experienced earlier in late July before the recent refinery price cuts took effect.

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) disclosed updated public finance indicators showing a structural increase in domestic tax collection. Annual tax revenue doubled from ₦12.3 trillion recorded in 2023 to ₦27.1 trillion as of mid-2026.

While total nominal national debt stands at ₦159.28 trillion, expanded revenue performance helped lower the national debt-to-GDP ratio to 32.3 percent.

Additionally, the debt-service-to-revenue ratio moderated from a previous high of 68 percent down to 53 percent, freeing up operational room within the federal budget.

Pan-African telecommunications giant MTN Group released a trading update showing that its Nigerian subsidiary achieved a 71 percent surge in net income for the first half of 2026, driven by expanding fintech adoption and rising data usage.

Despite strong operational performance in Nigeria, the parent company’s shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange dropped 5.99 percent to ₦193.20 per share (R193.20).

The stock fall wiped out R22.55 billion in market capitalization due to impairment losses tied to its non-operational investments in Iran.
