The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, has commenced operational, working and familiarization visits to police divisions and formations across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve police effectiveness.

The visits, which began within the week, are deliberately impromptu and unannounced, allowing the Commissioner to personally assess officers’ commitment to duty, inspect their working environments and operational conditions, and identify challenges, gaps and areas requiring urgent intervention.

CP Afolabi has so far visited the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia; Police Divisional Headquarters, World Bank; Ubakala Police Division; and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
During his interactions with officers and personnel, the Commissioner made critical observations and issued directives aimed at improving security and operational efficiency across the formations.

He particularly emphasized the need for adequate and tightened security at police facilities.
He stressed that station guards must remain alert, vigilant and responsive at all times, describing them as the first line of security for every police formation.

The Commissioner also reiterated the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which is anchored on accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing and community policing. He said the principles would guide his plans and operational strategies for the Abia State Command.

According to him, the Command’s implementation strategy will focus on proactive crime prevention, professional standards in the discharge of police duties and improved interactions between officers and members of the public.

CP Afolabi charged officers to adopt preventive and proactive operational strategies while remaining disciplined, professionally committed, vigilant and responsive to the security needs of the communities they serve.

He further declared a zero-tolerance stance against misconduct, corruption, extortion and other unethical practices capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner warned that officers found culpable, as well as end users who participate in corrupt practices, would face appropriate disciplinary action.

The ongoing visits, according to the Command, are intended to provide the Commissioner with a firsthand understanding of operational realities across Abia and enable prompt measures to address identified security and administrative challenges.
