June 30 () — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has celebrated an Akwa Ibom-born National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mary Etim, after her heartfelt video, appreciating the state government’s ₦80,000 monthly allowance for corps members, went viral on social media.

Etim, who is serving in Abuja and previously interned at the Documentary Department of Government House, Uyo, attracted the Governor’s attention after posting a video expressing gratitude for the allowance and the payment of outstanding arrears approved by the state government.

Receiving her during a courtesy visit at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno said he was moved by the sincerity of her appreciation, describing it as a rare display of gratitude.

“I watched the video and was genuinely impressed. Thank you for producing such a beautiful and sincere message of appreciation. It is refreshing to see someone acknowledge a good gesture”, the Governor said.

He remarked that Mary’s excitement over receiving the ₦80,000 allowance was “as though she had received ₦8 million”, adding that her attitude should inspire other beneficiaries of government programmes to appreciate the support extended to them.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development, explaining that the monthly allowance is paid to all Akwa Ibom indigenes serving in any part of the country, as well as non-indigenes posted to Akwa Ibom for their national service.

According to him, the initiative complements the Federal Government’s allowance and helps corps members cope with transportation costs and other essential expenses during their service year.

“My heart is with the youth because they are the future leaders of our nation. We will continue to support them in every way we can”, the Governor stated.

Responding, an elated Mary Etim thanked Governor Eno for prioritising the welfare of corps members, describing him as a leader who fulfils his promises. She also expressed delight that all eligible corps members covered by the initiative had received their payments.

The Commissioner for Youth Development commended the Governor for extending the allowance to both Akwa Ibom indigenes serving outside the state and non-indigenes serving within the state, noting that corps members whose names were initially omitted were subsequently captured and paid.

He said the intervention had significantly reduced the financial burden on corps members by complementing the allowance provided by the Federal Government, while also praising the Governor’s sustained investment in youth empowerment and human capital development.
