FENRAD Condemns Daylight Theft of Operational Vehicle in Abia

The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), Nigeria, has condemned the theft of an official vehicle belonging to its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, in Aba, Abia State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, while Nwafor was attending a church service at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), 10 Opobo Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

According to a statement signed by FENRAD’s Head of Legal Matters and Litigation, Barr. Femisi Akande, the Toyota Camry was parked along the roadside beside the church, a location where Nwafor routinely left the vehicle while attending worship and extended prayer sessions.

The organisation said Nwafor returned after the prayer session only to discover that the vehicle had been stolen.

The stolen vehicle is a Toyota Camry, ash in colour, with registration number AGL 315 AV, a Lagos plate number. Its engine number is 5S6116426, while the chassis number is JT2BG22K7V0025850.

FENRAD said the theft had been reported to the Azuka Police Station, Eziama Police Station and the Area Commander, Aba Area Command, for investigation and recovery.

It added that details of the vehicle had also been circulated to major automobile spare-parts markets, including Alaoji and Port Harcourt, amid concerns that stolen vehicles could be dismantled and their parts sold.

The organisation expressed concern over what it described as the increasing incidence of vehicle theft around churches and other public places in Aba, particularly on Sundays when worshippers leave their vehicles unattended during religious activities.

FENRAD said the stolen vehicle was an important operational asset used for environmental advocacy, human rights interventions, community engagements, humanitarian activities and other public-interest programmes across Abia State and beyond.

The organisation therefore appealed to the Abia State Commissioner of Police to intensify investigations, deploy available intelligence resources to recover the vehicle and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

It also called on the Abia State Government to strengthen security measures around churches, markets, commercial centres and other public places through improved surveillance, intelligence gathering, technological monitoring and community policing.

While linking the rise in theft and other crimes partly to prevailing economic hardship, FENRAD stressed that economic difficulties could not justify criminal activities.

The organisation urged members of the public with credible information about the whereabouts of the vehicle or the identity of the suspects to assist the police with such information.

FENRAD expressed confidence that the recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the perpetrators would demonstrate the capacity of security agencies to protect lives and property in Aba and its environs.
