Consideration of Key Abia Bills Deferred as State House of Assembly Adjourns Plenary
The Abia State House of Assembly temporarily stepped into a quasi-plenary session to deliberate on several critical legislative reports and bills aimed at strengthening governance, economic development, public safety, housing regulation, sports advancement, and poverty reduction across the state.
Among the matters slated for consideration was the report of the House Committee on Trade and Commerce on H.A.B. 28, a bill seeking to establish the Abia State Safety and Protection framework. Also listed was the report of the Committee on Lands and Housing on H.A.B. 34, the Abia State Real Estate Regulatory Bill, 2025, alongside H.A.B. 36, the Abia State Landlord and Tenant Bill, 2025.
The lawmakers were equally expected to deliberate on H.A.B. 29, a bill proposing the establishment of a Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund in Abia State, as well as H.A.B. 7, a bill seeking to create the Abia State Sports Development Fund to enhance sports development and related activities within the state.
However, deliberations on the reports and bills were postponed to a future legislative date following the unavailability of some essential materials and supporting documents required for their consideration.
Following the day’s proceedings, the House adjourned plenary to continue its legislative activities at its next sitting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The deferred bills are expected to return for consideration once all necessary documentation and materials are made available, paving the way for further legislative action on issues considered vital to the development and welfare of Abia State.
