FG To Launch Digital Education Data Platform To Improve Planning, Accountability
June 29 () — The Federal Government will officially launch the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) on July 1 as part of efforts to strengthen data-driven planning and governance in Nigeria’s education sector.
The National Project Coordinator of the Special Programmes Operations and Implementation Unit (SPOIU) in the Office of the Minister of Education, Adebayo Onigbanjo, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.
According to Onigbanjo, DNEMIS is a flagship component of the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative. The digital platform is designed to standardise education data management across all levels of education, replacing fragmented reporting systems that have hindered effective planning and policymaking.
He said the platform will provide a unified database capturing learners, teachers, schools and education investments, enabling real-time planning, budgeting, monitoring and service delivery.
“For many years, education planning and administration relied on fragmented systems, inconsistent reporting processes and limited access to reliable and timely data. These challenges constrained effective planning and weakened accountability”, Onigbanjo said, adding that “data is no longer a back-office function; it is becoming the engine of education reform in Nigeria.”

The Minister’s Special Assistant on Digital Communications and E-Learning, Mojoyin Adebajo, said DNEMIS will also digitise the Annual School Census and make selected official education data publicly available through an interactive online portal. She noted that government agencies, researchers, development partners, civil society organisations, journalists and the public will be able to access official education statistics.
Also speaking, UNICEF Education Specialist for Planning, Monitoring, Data and Research, Saka Ibraheem, said the long-term goal is to integrate the Education Management Information System, Teacher Management Information System and learner records into a single national platform by the end of next year.
He added that the integrated system will feature unique learner identifiers to improve enrolment tracking, monitor out-of-school children and help reduce school dropouts. The launch comes days after the commencement of the National Learning Assessment Week.
