Veteran British Investigative Journalist Roger Cook Dies at 83 After Short Illness
June 15, () — Veteran British investigative journalist Roger Cook has died at the age of 83 after a short illness.
His family confirmed he died peacefully on Saturday, June 13, from a tumor at the base of his spine. His passing was announced on Monday, June 15.
A family statement said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Cook, who died peacefully on Saturday after a short illness.”
They added: “Alongside a distinguished and award-winning career in journalism, Roger was first and foremost a beloved husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all of us, and we ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult loss.”
Cook was best known for hosting “The Cook Report” on Independent Television (ITV), which ran from 1987 to 1999.
The programme became known for its serious investigations and direct “doorstep” interviews with criminals and public figures.
His reporting covered organized crime, corruption, illegal trafficking, and other major cases. Some of his investigations led to arrests and legal action.
Cook began his journalism career in the late 1960s after moving to the United Kingdom. He worked in radio before moving into television news and current affairs.
He was widely respected for his work in investigative journalism and received a BAFTA Special Award in 1997.
Tributes have been paid by ITV and fellow journalists, who described him as a pioneering and fearless reporter.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, and his daughter.
