Legendary Music Executive Clive Davis Dies At 94

June 22 () — Legendary music executive, Clive Davis, has died at the age of 94.

His family confirmed to The New York Times that he died on Monday, June 22, in New York after recently being hospitalised for an upper respiratory infection.

Davis was one of the most influential figures in the global music industry. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, he helped launch major artists including Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

He began his career as a lawyer before joining Columbia Records in the 1960s. He later became president of the label and helped sign several major rock and pop artists.

In the 1970s, he was removed from Columbia after a financial investigation. He later pleaded guilty to a tax-related charge.

He went on to found Arista Records in 1974, where he achieved major success and helped launch Whitney Houston’s career, who became one of the best-selling artists of all time.

In 2000, he founded J Records, which signed artists such as Alicia Keys and Maroon 5.

Davis also hosted major music events, including his annual Pre-Grammy Gala, which became a major industry gathering.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

Davis is remembered for discovering talent early and shaping the careers of many global music stars.
