The Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, has continued to demonstrate its commitment to passenger safety, honesty and responsible service, earning commendation from passengers whose valuable belongings were forgotten in commercial tricycles and successfully returned through the union’s established structure.

In two separate incidents, passengers who accidentally left their belongings in tricycles expressed overwhelming joy after recovering their valuables at the ASTOPU Aba Zonal Head Office on Azikiwe Road, Aba, highlighting the importance of accountability and an organised transport system in Abia State.
In the first incident, Mrs. Chidinma, a fashion designer, recounted how she mistakenly left an expensive lace fabric that she had already sewn for a client inside a commercial tricycle while on her way to deliver the finished material.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
After discovering that the valuable item was missing, she made enquiries among tricycle operators around the area where she had boarded the Keke. She was subsequently directed to the ASTOPU Aba Zonal Head Office, where she lodged a complaint and was assured that forgotten belongings recovered by responsible riders would be returned to the office while efforts were made to locate their owners.

Barely two hours after leaving the office, Mrs. Chidinma received a call from ASTOPU informing her that her fabric had been recovered and was ready for collection, following its return by the tricycle operator.
The development brought her immense relief and happiness, especially considering the financial value of the material and the potential embarrassment and inconvenience its loss could have caused her in dealing with her client.
Impressed by the union’s response, she praised ASTOPU for its level of organisation and the integrity demonstrated by its leadership and members. She also urged passengers to remain vigilant and raise concerns whenever they encounter tricycles whose registration and affiliation with the union are questionable.
Mrs. Chidinma further commended the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for the leadership direction under which she believes the union is making positive contributions to public confidence in commercial transportation.
In a similar development, Mr. Sunday, a visitor from Akwa Ibom State, narrated how he lost some goods while travelling in a tricycle along Azikiwe Road by East on Friday.
Concerned about recovering his belongings, he approached another tricycle operator for guidance and was directed to the ASTOPU Aba Zonal Head Office on Azikiwe Road.
To his surprise and delight, he discovered that his missing goods had already been recovered and deposited at the office, awaiting identification and collection by their rightful owner.
The prompt recovery and return of his prperty left him deeply impressed, as he expressed gratitude to the union and applauded its leadership under the Zonal Chairman, Comrade Victor Azubuike, for promoting honesty, discipline and accountability among tricycle operators.
His experience further reinforced the growing perception that an organised transport union can play a significant role in protecting passengers’ interests and ensuring that commercial transportation goes beyond moving people from one destination to another.
The two incidents underscore the value of a functional reporting and recovery system within the transport sector, where misplaced belongings can be traced and returned without unnecessary delay. They also demonstrate how the conduct of individual operators can strengthen public trust in an entire union.
Under the leadership of Comrade Victor Azubuike, ASTOPU Aba Zone is receiving commendation from beneficiaries who say their experiences reflect a renewed commitment to responsible service and public confidence.
As Aba continues to witness efforts aimed at improving standards across different sectors, such acts of honesty and responsibility provide encouraging examples of how organised institutions can contribute to a safer and more dependable environment for residents, traders and visitors.
For the beneficiaries, the recovery of their belongings was more than a fortunate outcome; it was a reassuring demonstration that integrity still matters in everyday public service.
Indeed, their experiences echo the optimism associated with the New Abia agenda: a Abia where accountability, discipline and responsible leadership translate into pract ical benefits for ordinary people.
