DIG IBRAHIM BABA ZANGO CONCLUDES SECOND PHASE OF OPERATIONAL TOUR, REINFORCES SECURITY STRATEGIES AHEAD OF 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS
The Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), North-East, DIG Ibrahim Baba Zango, fdc, has undertaken the second phase of his operational tour of duty to the Gombe State Police Command, focusing on operational assessment, security coordination and the harmonisation of existing measures ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The tour featured operational briefings, a review of the prevailing security situation, assessments of police deployments and response mechanisms, and discussions on emerging security threats. It also provided an opportunity to evaluate the Command’s preparedness, identify operational gaps, and strengthen strategies for effective crime prevention and public safety.
A major highlight of the engagement was the review of election security preparedness with emphasis on intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, prevention of political violence and thuggery and the protection of electoral stakeholders and critical infrastructure. The discussions underscored the importance of early threat detection, timely information sharing and coordinated responses to potential security challenges before, during and after the elections.
The Supervising DIG also emphasised professionalism, discipline, impartiality, and respect for human rights, urging officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities and demonstrate the highest standards of conduct in all policing activities.
The tour further reinforced the need for sustained engagement with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), relevant security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders and other partners to promote peaceful political participation.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, mspsp, psc(+), in his remarks, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to implementing the directives and strategic guidance arising from the tour. He assured residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain proactive policing and strengthen security arrangements across the state.
The Command calls on political parties, aspirants, supporters and members of the public to conduct themselves peacefully, shun violence and thuggery and provide credible information to security agencies to support efforts towards a safe electoral environment.
