As part of these efforts, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris, on October 15, 2026, led senior management officials on a courtesy visit to the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbegbagha, at the Taraba State Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo.

The engagement, held under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) framework, focused on strengthening security arrangements for INEC offices, electoral materials and personnel, as well as enhancing intelligence sharing, early-warning mechanisms and coordinated responses to potential electoral threats across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.
Dr Idris commended the Police Command for its continued support in providing a safe environment for democratic activities. In response, CP Ogbegbagha reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professional, impartial and intelligence-led policing to safeguard the electoral process.
Both parties pledged sustained collaboration to maintain law and order and ensure a safe and peaceful environment for electoral activities before, during and after the elections.

The visits, which mark the commencement of the REC’s assessment tour of LGA offices across the state, were aimed at evaluating infrastructure, logistics, staff capacity, security arrangements and operational challenges, while identifying areas requiring intervention to improve service delivery.
At the Yorro LGA office, the REC and his management team were received by the Electoral Officer and staff before inspecting the office facilities and storage area. He disclosed that renovation works would commence soon, following the Commission’s approval.
