July 23 , () — Elon Musk says his AI platform, Grok Imagine, will produce a full-length adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” before the end of 2026, just days after Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster version opened in cinemas.
Sharing a three-minute AI-generated clip on X on July 22, Musk wrote: “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”

Musk’s Long-Running Criticism of Nolan’s Film
Musk’s announcement follows months of criticism directed at Nolan’s adaptation.
The billionaire has repeatedly accused the director of prioritizing a “woke” agenda, criticizing the film’s casting choices, what he sees as a lack of historical accuracy, and what he has described as deliberate anti-White casting.
He has been particularly vocal about the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and has also criticized the inclusion of Elliot Page, who ultimately portrays Sinon rather than Achilles.
His criticism has extended beyond social media posts. Musk recently backed a proposal from an X user suggesting that director Mel Gibson make a separate live-action adaptation of “The Odyssey” featuring historically accurate ships, armor and weapons, with dialogue spoken entirely in Homeric Greek. Responding to the suggestion, Musk simply wrote: “I’m down.”
Despite the controversy, Nolan’s The Odyssey has enjoyed a strong start at the global box office.
The film earned more than $264 million worldwide during its opening weekend, marking the biggest global debut of Nolan’s career.
Nolan has largely dismissed the criticism, saying debates about the film before audiences have seen it are “irrelevant.”
However, Musk’s use of the phrase “historically accurate” has drawn skepticism from scholars and historians.
While aspects of ancient Greek life, including ships, armor and architecture, can be reconstructed through historical research, ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythological epic featuring supernatural characters and creatures, including the Cyclops, Sirens, Scylla and the sorceress Circe, making a literally “historically accurate” retelling difficult to define.
