A new chapter has begun in British politics as Keir Starmer officially stepped down as Prime Minister, bringing his two-year tenure at 10 Downing Street to an end.
Starmer departed the Prime Minister’s official residence for the final time after a farewell ceremony outside No. 10, marking the conclusion of his time in office.
His exit paved the way for former Manchester Mayor, Andrew Burnham, to assume the nation’s highest political office. Burnham was formally invited by King Charles III to form a new government following Starmer’s resignation.
During a private audience at Buckingham Palace, His Majesty requested the Rt. Hon. Andrew Burnham MP to establish a new administration. Burnham accepted the King’s invitation and completed the traditional ceremony of kissing hands, officially becoming the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
The peaceful transfer of power marks the end of the Starmer administration and ushers in a fresh era under Burnham’s leadership, with expectations high as the new Prime Minister prepares to unveil his government’s agenda and steer Britain through its next political phase.
