Hard labour increasing hernia cases among Nigerian adults – Medical doctor

A Medical Doctor, Dr. Humble Evuchaiwe, has identified hard labour and other physical activities as being responsible for the rising cases of hernia in Nigerians.

He said that manual farming and other strenuous labour activities in communities are some of the major factors that lead to the development of hernia in humans.

Dr. Evuchaiwe made the explanation to journalists at Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State on Thursday during a medical outreach organised by the former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, where hernia and other surgeries were performed on villagers.

Evuchaiwe, who spoke through Dr. Uju Stanley, also said that hernia cases among little children should not be regarded as strange or diabolical, as may be misconstrued by some Nigerians.

“There is no age limit to hernia, but in most adults, most cases of hernia are caused by doing strenuous jobs.”

He urged Nigerians to seek proper medical advice and treatment when they notice signs of hernia, rather than resorting to self-help.
